September and October brought me unexpected pleasure this year thanks to Carl's R.I.P Fall Reading Challenge. It's fun to delve into a genre that I only occasionally read. And delve I did, with gusto.
Here's a list of the books I read for this challenge.
1. The Prodigal Son by Dean Koontz
2. Dracula by Bram Stoker
3. The Thirteen Tale
4. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
5. The China Garden by Liz Berry
6. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
7. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
8. Stardust by Neil Gaiman
I was richly rewarded by this experience. I never thought I would enjoy Dracula, but I loved it and, because of it, I read The Historian and Twilight, two other vampire books. From the books listed, my least favorite was Twilight and I liked it a lot. Thanks, Carl, for issuing the challenge.

You've done a very impressive job of expanding your literary horizons there! One of my friends is reading The Historian, and like you, I don't tend to read vampire fiction, but the description on the back of the book was so tempting and the page I sampled was so well written it's gone straight on my tbr list.
Wow, you did really well on the challenge - congrats!
What a great list. You've inspired me to put Dracula on my list for the Classics challenge.
Glad to have you participate. That's a great list. I'm especially glad it challenged you to read books you don't normally read.
Great list! I've started one of my own to refer to next year (I'm hoping Carl has a second annual RIP challenge!).
Congratulations! You really threw yourself into the RIP challenge. Good for you!
Congrats to you booklogged, you did really well!! These challenges are wonderful in that you push yourself to read books you may not have normally read and how nice when you end up enjoying the read so much! I am so looking forward to the Classics and Chunksters Challenge!
I really enjoyed this challenge as well and have just summed up my selection on my blog (http://randomjottings.typepad.com) if anybody wants to look - not sure that my identity links to it. Two on my list that I can really recommend are The Woman in Black and The Mist in the Mirror, both by Susan Hill and I tell you now, they scared the life out of me.
Good list. These should keep you very busy.
Wow, that's a lot of books and sounds like a great challenge. Congratulations!
Did you enjoy The Thirteenth Tale? I have thought about looking for this one at the library sometime next year (have too many other books to read for a couple more months!!!)
:)
I posted a wrap up on the blog today in case you're interested!
You did great!
Wish I had read Dracula instead. What was I thinking, trying to read Frankenstein.
