A New Classics Challenge

Kathrin from Crazy Cozy Murders is hosting a summer/fall Classics Challenge. I am joining up and hoping this time of the year will lend itself to reading classics better than winter did, for me at least. All the classics I've chosen overlap with other challenges, providing me with a double kick in the rear to get these read.
1. Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder
2. The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy Emmuska
3. The Magnificent Ambersons by Booth Tarkington
4. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
5. One more that I haven't decided on yet
The challenge is to read 3 to 5 classics between July 1 and November 31. That's one classic per month. I really like the sound of that. It allows time for other reads in between.

Glad you're joining in :-)
Of the books you picked so far I only know Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I'll be curious to hear about your other choices...

That sounds like fun! I think I will watch from the sidelines as I already have too much on my plate! I want to read The Scarlet Pimpernel, too! I read the Tarkington last year and really liked it.

Great choices, Booklogged. I am looking forward to reading more classics. Your challenge a few months ago wet my appetite.

From a Hoosier, thanks for picking up the Magnificent Ambersons! I hope you enjoy it. By the way, I haven't givenup on your winter classics challenge; I'm just creatively reinterpreting it so that I finish by the start of winter at the end of 2007!

Oh, I wish I would quit seeing this challenge mentioned. Sooner or later I'm not going to be able to resist jumping in.

I know for a fact (as I just checked the archives) that I still have four classics unread from the last Classics Challenge! H-mmm-mm. What shall I do?

Maggie, let me tell you, it wasn't easy to resist! I know it's hard to believe, but I've had to resist several challenges that I wanted to join.

I do think I'm going to have to listen to Sissy Spacek narrate To Kill a Mockingbird.

Please, I'm just teasing. It looks like you might tip over from all the other books you'll be reading.

I was wondering where bloggers got the idea they had to read classics for the SRC. I just said Southern author and Southern setting. :D

Oh I could totally redeem myself with this one! I only read one classic from the winter challenge. Problem is, I've just got too many others going on. Well, I'll see what happens. Good luck with your challenge - I read Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde last year. Very good but very different from what I expected. Granted my expectations were all based on film versions :)

I loved Jeckyll & Hyde and The Scarlet Pimpernel - loads of action in that one; I hope you like it as much as I did. Looks like you've chosen some good ones.

Just finished reading Jekyll and Hyde (reviewed on my blog), so best of luck with the Challenge!

Are you taking nominations for your fifth book, or can we help you choose?

Hmm, I may add The Scarlet Pimpernel onto my list as well...thanks for the idea. :)

And if you don't mind, I'm going to "borrow" your button since I can't figure out how to make one...
