The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society

by Mary Ann shaffer & Annie Barrows

There have been many good reviews about this book posted elsewhere and I'm just going to add - I loved it, too.

The book is written in letters back and forth from a journalist in London and some folks on Guernsey Island. It is the end of WWII and Europe is trying to put itself back together.

This beautiful story tells of the Nazi occupation of the Guernsey Island for five years during the war. We learn of hardships suffered by both the islanders and the soldiers and yet the overall feeling of the book is one of hope, resurgence, and love.

I very seldom cry while reading or watching movies, but there was one part of the book that I couldn't hold back the tears. Don't put off reading this because it contains a little sadness. I thought the book was delightful. I strongly recommend it to all my blogger friends.

I'm so glad you liked it. I absolutely loved this one and recommend it to everyone. I've recently picked up a copy of The Essays of Elia by Charles Lamb because of this book. I got it at a wonderful old bookshop near my house. I can't remember the copyright exactly, but it is in the 1870s, I believe. I couldn't believe it when I found it.

As you know, this is one of my most favorite books ever. My afternoon book group is reading it now in preparation for our April meeting. The members have been emailing back and forth already (they just picked up the books on Tuesday) with their delight. I think everyone in the group will be a fan when they finish.

Love the new look!

This is one of my favorite books as of right now! I just loved everything about it though I was originaly apprehensive about the letter format but it really made the book even more special.
Also, what a beautiful blog you have!
