This is book two on my From the Stacks Challenge. This is book 4 in the Amelia Peabody series. I have enjoyed them, but I feel some of the magic disipatating. I'll probably read another one or two. But I did get another book marked off my list. Whipeeee!

my favorite so far is The Mummy Case. and also the first book of hers that i read.
Oh oh oh!!! I love Elizabeth Peters. I could go on rapturously about her Vicky Bliss books for hours.
I really loved the Amelia books, especially the first one. Did you know Peters didn't intend for that to become a series, but it was so well-received that she ended up writing the series?
I love the character of Sethos too. I've had him in mind in several books I've written (as-yet not published) and I think John Smythe, from the Vicky Bliss books, might be some form of Sethos.

You seem to be good at reading multiple works by authors you enjoyed the first time round - for some reason, I never really do that. Maybe I should take a leaf from your book, as it were...
Angela, The first one I read was Naked Once More and I really liked it.

Traveller, I didn't used to read series. This is something that's happened to me in the past couple of years. I am growing weary of some.
I've read almost all of the Amelia series and definitely don't like the later ones as well. Ramses is my favorite character but not as much when he's all grown up.
Again, the speed with which you read amazes me! I feel as though I will never reach the bottom of my "to be read" pile.
Maybe in my retirement years...
I also enjoy the earlier books much more than the later and have given up on reading the latest in the Amelia Peabody series. Sad, but true.
I really liked the first in the Amelia series but it seems most of the series that I read lately seem to really peter out as they go along.
Framed, I think one of the things that is wearing on my nerves is the way Amelia talks and treats Ramses. The poor boy!
Library Mama, I am semi-retired so that does help a lot. I only have one daughter still at home and I only work part-time.

Hello, Carrie. You know, it may be good news that the series peters (no pun intended, right?) out - that just means I can move on to other things.
Young Ramses is one of my all-time favorite literary characters. He's diabolical in his logic and I just adore that. He's not nearly as much fun when he gets older.
But, the History of Love? I love, love, love that book. I've read it twice now and each time had a smile on my face for about the entire last quarter. I just think it's beautiful and unique and really wonderful.
I think I'm going to have to look up the Book Thief . . . it sounds darn good, too!

Booklogged, you will have to keep reading Peters until Ramses gets a little older. He really does turn the pages back on Amelia. I truly enjoyed that!
