The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

by C. S. Lewis
What can I say about this book that everyone doesn't already know. I enjoyed the reread. I hope this isn't blasphemous of me to say, but I think I enjoyed The Magician's Nephew just a bit better. Maybe it was the newness of it. Next, I'll be reading The Horse and His Boy. All, but The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, are new books for me.

Blasphemous or not, I too prefer The Magician's Nephew out of all the series. :)

That's the only one I've read of that series as well! I'm looking forward to the rest of them. I've been having a nice little boxed set of them sitting on my shelf for ages.

I've never technically read any of this series, but dad read them to us at bedtime when we were younger. I remember always begging him to read another chapter each night.

Correction: I meant to say that he read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" to us...not the entire series.

I love The Horse and His Boy! Bree and Shasta - I always wished I would find a talking horse and have adventures. Although actually, any horse would have done, whether it talked or not.

I don't think it's blasphemous to have a preference! :)

I have read them a million times and Mag Nephew and Horse and HIs boy are the ones I read at least every year.

Actually, of all the Narnia books, my personal favorite is The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

I think "The Horse and His Boy" was the first in the series that I ever read...you'll be a bit horrified at the undercurrent of racism, and sexism as well...but aside from that, it's a pretty great book.

I loved Magician's Nephew, too. No blood and gore at the end, either. Nice.

btw, I FINALLY finished my Winter Classics Challenge, only 2 months late. Sigh. If you're so inclined, here's my review of Madame Bovary: http://jellyjules.com/?p=619

Is it any more blasphemous for me to admit that I've never read this book? Glad to hear the reread was as enjoyable as the first time.

One of the best parts of The Magician's Nephew (to me) was how it explains the origin of the wood for the wardrobe in The Lion...My son's very favorite is The Horse and His Boy, but like you, I've only read the two. One day I want to go through all Lewis' chronicles. I thought the movie, released two Christmases ago, was quite effective. Normally, the film is a let down for me.

Booklogged, I loved reading this one as a kid and so naturally I was all excited to be able to read it to my kids, but, they hated it! I think it's because they weren't familiar with the British words and expressions...I really don't know what it was but I just could not get them to enjoy it!
