Voyager

By Diana Gabaldon
I really love this series! Voyager is book 3 in the Outlander series. All the books are thick. In fact, I read this one for the Chunksters Challenge. I'm also counting it for my 1990 Decades Challenge book and for the TBR Challenge.

Originally this series was going to be a trilogy, so Voyager would have been the end. Thankfully, due to the great success of her books, Gabaldon has written 3 more books and turned the trilogy into a series. Book 4 is Drums of Autumn.

Definitely a romance, but also fits into the historical novel genre and then there's the time travel that takes Claire from 1940 back to the 1740's. I skipped a few pages here and there because I don't love detailed intimate moments in my literature. The rest of the adventure is spell binding.

I came so close to starting Outlander this week, but I need to finish the A to Z list. But this really whets my apetite.

I've heard of these books - maybe I need to grab a copy of the first one!

I've never read them because of their length. I wish "chunksters" were broken up into at least 2 books, so that I wouldn't be so intimidated! :) Glad you have enjoyed the series.

I've never read any of these, but I guess I'm going to have to since so many people love them!

I've got to put these on my TBR also! I recently read "Doomsday Book" which has a time travel component and I really like that...someone told me these books were similar...

Aren't TBR lists supposed to SHRINK at some point??? :)

Ooooh - this is the Chunkster I have planned for April. I've read the series through Drums of Autumn, but then I went back and started re-reading - I'm enjoying the series for the second time just as much. I'm looking forward to this one for the second time :-)

This is a great series. I've seen Diana Gabaldon twice now at book launches where she talked about the book and her writing process. She's an amazing lady and apparently there are at least two more books planned in the series after "Snow and Ashes" so I can't wait.

ha ha. My friends and I called these books 'the Scottish sex books', to differentiate between 'the prehistoric sex books', Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear books. There are some risque moments in both books.
I loved those books.

Framed, I can't wait to hear what you think of Outlander. You're getting so close to the end of your A-Z list. I'm so very impressed.

Marg, It's been my favorite so far, too. Did you read all six? Is it time for me to stop?

Be prepared, Stephanie. They are all fat!

Joy, I think that would be great. Every 350 pages counts as a new book. The Outlander books would each count as 3 books. Oh, you have a very good idea there.

Jenclair, they are good adventure and love stories. I'll be curious to hear what you think.

Lisa, I guess our TBR lists would shrink if we kept reading other readers' blogs. Maybe?

Wow, SuzieQ, that's amazing! I don't usually reread books, but I could imagine picking these up in a couple years & enjoying them all over again.

Duck Thief, I would really enjoy hearing Diana Gabaldon talk about her books. Maybe one of these years she'll come to the Salt Lake book fair.

Alisonwonderland, You're the second person who has recommended Doomsday. It's going on my list.

Raidergirl3, haha! I suspect the sex hasn't changed much from prehistoric to Scotish clan!

I have read the first three, and they are fun. I always mean to finish off the series, but I never seem to get around to it. At this point I would have to reread the first three again, I think!

do you need "drums of autumn"? i will send it if you do. the last 2 of the series just came in my mail. i've found this series to be "comfort books." you know, when you want to curl up with a new book and you need one that you KNOW you'll like?? does that make any sense?

it's all your fault i got hooked, too.

I love the series too. She just keeps on writing! And I keep on reading.

I have never read Outlander, she admits with a hanging head.

I've heard so many good things about it, but I've never been a really big fan of Scottish medievals...although I do think Scotland is a gorgeous place.

I got as far as Drums of Autumn and now I'm waiting for her to finish the whole series. So. Long.

The Yellow Wall Paper sounds like a short story I've got to read.

I wish she had stopped there. I hate the rest of it... well Drums of Autumn is pretty bla to say the least. The first three are superb and I highly recommend it as well. Are you intending to continue?
