Just Take My Heart

by Mary Higgins Clark

I just have to say that this is one of the ugliest covers I've seen. The one I posted looks a little better than the one I checked out from the library. On mine you don't see the face or the arm on the left or any hint of a waistline, so all you really see is the ugly dress and the girl's hand. Everything looks flat, nondimensional and blase (if anyone knows how to type an e with the little mark over it to make it French, I would love to know). When I saw it on the shelf I had to do a bit of searching to convince myself that it was by the real Mary Higgins Clark and not another, rip-off author. The back cover convinced me. You know how Mary is always pictured on the full back cover looking all fixed up? I find myself wishing they would always show more of the background. I want to see the whole room. A home magazine should really do a feature on her house. Maybe I'm assuming too much, maybe the pictures aren't taken in her home.

Anyway, I saw this at the library and knew it was the perfect thing to read to get my reading going again. (May was a slow month.) It was just what I needed - a good, light, interesting and captivating mystery that was fast to read. I think this book was better than the last several. It's the first time I remember Higgins writing a courtroom drama. There were a few things I thought were cheesy, but all-in-all I really enjoyed it.

I have not read anything by Mary Higgins Clark--yet. (But of course I have seen her name on the cover of many books.)

To make the French accent on my keyboard, I hold down the option key at the same time as the e key, then go back and fill in the letter. If this doesn't work for your keyboard or computer you can find more info on Google.

Thanks Suko, for the help with the e thing. It works great when using Word, but I can't get it to work on blogger.

Try this site for international characters - I've used them and they work in Blogger.

Nice to hear this book was better than her last. A couple of months ago I had read her then-most-recent book and was seriously disappointed with it. I don't recall her doing any other courtroom-drama mysteries, either, so I'll be interested to see how she handles it. Thanks for the review!

I haven't read Clark in years...when her writing started to drag I jumped ship. I'm glad that you enjoyed this one....I don't think I'll ever read her again but it is nice to hear that she's starting to turn around a bit!!

So, for those of us who haven't read Mary Higgins Clark, is there a book you'd recommend as a starting place?

AGreed, that's not the greatest cover. Her's are usually better. I haven't read this one yet but I've always liked her for a nice light read when I need it. The last one I read was about the two little girls and the name is escaping me right now. It as sure good.

Oh good! I love reads like this and a courtroom drama to boot! :)

Lynne, thanks for the help. I'll check it out.

Melissa, I know what you mean. The last couple I read were disappointing - probably the same ones you read.

Staci, I used to read all of her books that I could get my hands on, now it's just as she comes out with a new one. They did slip, but I think this one is good.

CJ, all of Clark's books are stand alones so you don't have to worry about reading them in any order. I don't remember too much about her earlier ones, but I do remember liking Remember Me. I would suggest looking on amazon - any of her books that have a 4.0 rating are higher and have been rated by 30-40 people should provide you with a good read.

Dar, when I'm in a reading slump there are certain authors I know will help snap me out of it - Clark is one, as are Koontz and Scottoline. I know their style and that familiarity along with the mystery get me involved in reading again.

Joy, I hope you enjoy it. Can I just say that whenever I see your name in my comments, it makes me smile.

It's been years since I read anything by her but I do have this book and want to give it a go. But you are so right, the cover is just bleh. Glad you enjoyed the book!

Thank you, Booklogged! That was an extremely kind thing to say. You made my day. :) I hope yours is bringing you happiness, too.

I have a couple of friends that really love Mary Higgins Clark, but much to their dismay, I have never tried one of her books. Is there anything that you would recommend for a first time reader of this author? We seem to gravitate towards the same books sometimes, so I would trust your opinion. Thanks!
