Spring does something to my mood. I'm so happy that the cold is warming, the snow is melting, and the flowers are blooming. In that same spirit, I want to join in this fun project of I am going to give away 3 books that I own and have read. To qualify for the drawing all you need do is leave a comment and indicate which of the 3 books you would like to win. Yes, I am making you pick! Call me names if you want, but you won't feel good about yourself if you win!
Also, please tell me one or two mysteries series that you really like. I don't know why I ask because I'm into several series already. I guess I just like to hear what everyone likes.
I would like to hold a drawing and give away my recently read copy of Pardonable Lies written by Jacqueline Winspear. Please note ***This is book 3 in the Maisie Dobbs series.*** I wish I had kept the first two in the series, but alas, I sent them off to BookMoochers. I think this is the best in the series so far. The story takes place post-WWI in London. I highly recommend this series.
The second book you may choose is the first book in Anne Perry's William Monk mystery series, The Face of a Stranger. I haven't read all the books in this series and I didn't start with #1. It was fun to read it after I already knew some of the events that had already transpired. The books are all set in Victorian England. This is another series I highly recommend.
The third book is not a mystery, but keeps your attention like one. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes is a soft SciFi. It won a Hugo Award, a Nebulla award and the movie-adaptation Charly won an Oscar. A very good book.

I think it's a great idea to GIVE away some books...share the wealth! When I read Flowers for Algernon in High School it broke my heart so deeply I can still feel it. What a profoundly moving book. I will never forget it, especially since I've always had such a soft spot for special needs people.
So are talking about April 7 and drawing on April 8th? because you said March. I would like Flowers for Algernon and as you know I don't really read mysteries and if I hear of any good ones I usually hear them from you.

Mysteries, my favorite. Have you read any Brother Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters? Set in 1100s on the Wales border. I see you've already found Monk, but I think I prefer Charlotte and Thomas Pitt by Anne Perry. And a more modern British mystery series is Inspector Lynley by Elizabeth George.
I would pick Flowers for Algernon; you wrote a great review and it intrigued me; I already read Face of a Stranger and it was great.
I'll go for the Maisie Dobbs book. I haven't read anything by Winspear. Of course, I never win these things but it's always fun to suggest books. I'm sure you know every mystery series I've ever read but here's some I like: Martha Grimes' Richard Jury series, Jane Haddam's Gregor Demarkian Holiday Mysteries, Charlotte Macleod's series ??, M C Beaton's Hamish Macbeth Mysteries and James Patterson's Alex Cross series.

Mystery series? How about the ones by Patterson that have numbers in the titles - about a group of women who solve murders? Can't remember the titles right now - I think one was 1ST TO DIE.

i love both the Monk and the Pitt series by Anne Perry! (i've read everything in both series so far, except the most recent Monk, Dark Assassin. i heard Perry speak last year, and that was great fun - and she signed my copy of Dark Assassin, too.)
other mystery series i enjoy are James Patterson's Alex Cross and Women's Murder Club (already mentioned by others), Linda Fairstein's Alexandra Cooper, Stephen White's Dr. Alan Gregory, Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware, and Peter Robinson's Alan Banks. (yes, i do enjoy mysteries!)

I second the recommendation of the Brother Cadafel books - a friend recently got me well and truly hooked on them.
If you can find them you might try the Amsterdam mysteries by Janwillem Van de Wetering. His characters solve their mysteries in the usual way, but also through playing freeform music with each other, and adding meditations.
Flowers for Algernon was heartbreaking - I agree with bellezza.

I'd pick the Maisie Dobbs book; I've heard so many people who are positive about this series. And, as for series I like...well, the Boris Akunin books featuring Erast Fandorin (translated from Russian)are great. Then there's Laurie King's Mary Russell books, or Joanne Dobson's academic series, or Dianne Day's Fremont Jones mysteries. Also there is a 4 book series by Sarah Caudwell featuring British lawyers which is absolutely, brilliantly clever. Sadly it has only 4 as she has passed away. Just a few to think on!
If I won, I would chose Flowers for Algernon for the simple reason that I loved the book so much in middle school, but have not read it since. This would give me a reason! As for mystery series, I really like Tess Gerritsen and her series following Maura Isles, as well as Linda Fairstein and Kathy Reichs books. Christian fiction mysteries are a favorite too, you could try Kathy Herman or Colleen Coble for those!

Flowers for Algernon is a great book everyone, I reread it every few years. :) To be honest, if I were to win a book, I might request that one because my copy is quite beat up! Although, I have been curious about the Maisie Dobb series...

What a great idea! I am a huge mystery fan although you wouldn't know it by what I've been reading lately. Reading the other comments, I see some of my favorites have already popped up.
I recently discovered Mark Billingham's Tom Thorne series. Laura Lippman's Tess Monaghan series is another new-to-me favorite.

What a good twist on the BAFAB project. No need to put me in the drawing as I have too many books :) Just wanted to recommend another mystery series to you - Maureen Jennings. Her historical series set in Toronto is really good.
I would like to go for Face of A stranger and fingers crossed! I have just finished reading the latest Donna Leon with her wonderful Italian hero, Guido Brunetti and all set in wonderful wonderful Venice. I love this series. I also love Alexander MCCall Smith Ladies Detective Agency novels and the Sunday Philosopy CLub series, all marvellous

Oh, I'd love the Jacqueline Winspear. I love this series. Other mystery series I love: the Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin books by Rex Stout; the Mrs Pollifax books by Dorothy Gilman; the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes books by Laurie R. King; the Rumpole books by John Mortimer (though not really mysteries but are usually classified as such); the Amelia Peabody books by Elizabeth Peters.
