Bridge to Terabithia
6/01/2007
by Katherine PatersonI decided I needed to reread this book when I saw the advertisements on TV for the movie. The ads didn't look familiar to me. I decided I didn't remember a thing about the book. Not true. I did remember the story pretty well. I still haven't seen the movie, but I can tell it played up certain parts of the book to the extreme. Having reread the book, I will probably watch the movie one of these days.
Speaking of memories - There was something in the first third of the book that caused me to ask if Bridge to Terabithia was on any challenged or banned book lists. I don't remember what it was, but I did check the ALA's 100 most challenged books of 1990-2000 and Terabithia was ninth on the list. So, even though I didn't originally have it on my Banned Books Challenge, I am adding it. This is also the first of my Newbery Awards Challenge books. I think it's a wonderful book.

I loved this book and was also disappointed at the misrepresentation of the movie to the book. I haven't seen the movie, but I'm sure I prefer the book.
I sent you an email about PEI. Did you get it? Do you still have my email address? I can try again if it didn't get there.
I love this book. I re-read it every so often, but I never grow tired of the story.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Don't believe what you saw in the movie trailer. The movie followed the book QUITE well and didn't misrepresent it at all to me.
I'm telling you, if you like the book, you'll like the movie. They did a really good job with it.
I really need to think about reading this book!
Another book on my TBR list that I have not yet got around to. It sounds like a fantastic read.
h saw the movie nd loved every tearful minute. he has the book, but i's still a bit sophisticated for him. right now he's into the retelling of the odyssey by mary pope osborne.
What is it about this book that caused it to be on a banned list? I read it many times as a child, but now can't remember that part. Can you remind me without being explicit?
