Here's what I DID read and the country or city the books transported me to:
Quebec City - Shadows on the Rock by Willa Cather
Peru - Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder
Newfoundland - Shipping News by Annie Proulx
Afghanistan - A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Nova Scotia - Barometer Rising by Hugh MacLennan
Prince Edward Island - Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Shipping News was probably my least favorite, but I'm still glad I read it. The other 5 I loved.
Actually visiting Canada this summer enhanced my reading of the books set in Canada.
I'm definitely looking forward to joining this challenge again next year. A great big THANKS to A Life in Books for hosting this challenge.

Shipping News - but it made for a heck of a movie. :)
You did read several set in Canada. I've been doing that too with mysteries lately. Not really planning to read about that region, but just happening to. I loved A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Congrats on finishing the challenge! I need to start finishing up some of these myself! I'm in over my head in challenges!
Way to go. I hope the challenge lasts until the end of the year, or I'm in trouble.
Whee! So much fun to see someone enjoying a challenge so much. I think I'll join this one if it happens again.
Congrats on finishing the challenge! I'm way behind on it - I'm also hoping it goes through the end of the year.
You didn't really transport yourself to Newfoundland at all if you did it through the Shipping News. You merely visited the Annie Proulx Presents version, which isn't at all like the real thing. (It's where I'm from).
Kaye, I need to check out the movie and compare it to the book.
Kay, I actually planned to read the Canadian novels because my husband and I traveled in Canada this summer.
Chris, it is so fun to finish up a challenge. I'm over my head, too.
Framed, it does go til the end of Dec.
Dewey, I hope she does this challenge again. Next best thing to actually being there is reading about it.
Iliana, there are so many challenges going on right now, it's easy to get behind.
John, we talked with a bookstore owner in Gander, Newfoundland who felt the same way about Shipping News. He sold us some others that he said represented the province better. I want to return to Newfoundland very much.
Congrats on finishing the challenge! It was a fun one, wasn't it?
