Six Random Things Meme

I've been tagged by Tricia at Library Queue to come up with six random things about me. I'm leaving out the obvious one - that I love to read.

1. While attending college I switched majors six times in two years. Finally, with no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up, I returned home to work in a local dress shop.

2. Candleman proposed to me on our second date and I accepted. We had a week of dating before he left for Navy boot camp. He had been drafted into the Army but decided he would rather join the Navy. They let him. We were married during his one week leave after boot camp.

3. I went back to college when I was forty-one years old and majored in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. After graduating at the age of forty-four I became a high school science teacher. For several years I taught at the alternative high school and loved it.

4. I was totally inept with the spacing of my children. My first three were born within three years and my fourth came along eleven years later. All four children are girls. Candleman always said that some people have to take whatever they get, but we specialize!

5. I have fibromyalgia and so I hurt often and sometimes badly. I don't have an abundance of energy and need to sleep way more than I want to. Sometimes I go quite awhile without any disabling symptoms and I like those days immensely.

6. I like to take road trips with Candleman because he understands my foibles and provides leeway. Last summer we took a 5 week trip that took us across many states and into Canada. We went as far as St. John's, Newfoundland. We only had one disagreement the whole time, but it was one of the worst of our 35 years. Oh, and we also saw Lady Slipper Orchids and Puffins while in Newfoundland and the musical Anne of Green Gables while in PEI. Totally wonderful trip. Almost.

Now I get to tag six people. I always want to tag everyone I know, but I can't. Some of you hate to be tagged, so if I tag you just ignore it.

1. Bookfan-Mary
2. Chris at book-a-rama
3. Wendy at Musings of a Bookish Kitty
4. Gautami Tripathy from My Own Little Reading Room
5 Lisa at Harper Hoorahs
6. Framed from Framed and Booked

Here are the rules:
  • Link to the person that tagged you
  • Post the rules somewhere in your meme
  • Write the six random things
  • Tag six people in your post
  • Let the tagees know they’ve been chosen by leaving a comment on their blog
  • Let the tagger know your entry is posted

This were really interesting! Crazy about your proposal-I thought my parents' marriage was sudden (my dad proposed after six weeks and they married two weeks later-they were both in the military), but you make them look like dawdlers. :D I have fibro too-the required sleep thing drives me insane. I don't know how long you've had it, but I'm going into my seventh year, and unless the weather changes I only need about eight hours of sleep a night now. So it's gotten a lot better over time.

I suppose 5 weeks with anyone would be a strain on a relationship. I'm sorry you had a such a bad disagreement. And then you came home to your flooded basement, right? Ack!

Kudos to you on going back to school. Science was never my forte (although I liked biology best of them all). I'm impressed.

My husband and I could never survive 5 weeks like that without at least one meltdown.

I know that this is completely unrelated to your post, but I notice that you're reading The Secret Scroll. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it--I hated it.

We used to take four week trips when I was a kid. It's funny who you can travel with and who you can't.

One disagreement, even if it was a doozy isn't half bad for a five week sojourn away from home.

I pretty much already knew all these random facts about you, but it's fun to hear them again. I'm still impressed that you only had one disagreement in 5 weeks of road tripping together. When I told people that my parents were on a 5 week vacation, driving across the country, the most common response was, "I could never spend that long in a car with anyone!" I think you and dad just fit together so well; I'm sure 35 years of marriage helped to get you to that point. Love you!!

Eva, I was probably officially diagnosed about 6 years ago, but I've had fibro much longer just not knowing what it was. Wicked stuff!

Les, four and a half weeks of the trip were absolutely delightful. We may have to redo New York sites again to fully appreciate them. Coming home to a flooded basement wasn't as bad as living with the slow remodeling project. Candleman wants to do it himself and he's gone back to work, so it's basically a standstill.

Tricia, I hated science in high school, so I was surprised when I picked that as my major. Loved it later in life. I hated history, too but sure would enjoy classes now. Oh, and would I ever love to take more literature classes, too.

Katherine, I've only read about 1/3 of Secret Scroll. So far it's okay, but I may have trouble with some of the dogma later on. I'll see.

Carrie, did you enjoy your trips? I hated traveling when I was a kid. No air, nine of us packed into the station wagon, luggage on top, eating sandwiches at the roadside stops.

Aly, I love you too. Appreciate your commenting even on the old hat stuff.

I was pretty fickle about college, too. When I finally settled on what I wanted to do, got a degree and took the GMAT to go for the master's, the husband moved me far, far away from decently priced higher education. I'm not sure I've ever quite forgiven him. I agree -- one fight in 5 weeks is amazing. I hate traveling with my husband, these days, as we do nothing *but* fight.

I finally had some time to do this--it was very fun! I loved reading more about you and finding out some interesting things about you. I am constantly amazed at the volume and variety of books that you read. You are an inspiration!
