These Books Are Made For Walking

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month Strumpet (my neighbor just next door in Colorado) invites readers to think about a topic that has to do with books and travel.

Isn't the picture perfect for this meme?! I love it.Here's the topic for this month:

Is there a place that you have always dreamed of visiting specifically because of a book you read? It can be any kind of book: fiction, non-fiction, travelogue, you name it. If you have been to the place, did it live up to your expectations? If you haven't been, do you think you'll ever make it there?

I had a dream to visit the Prince Edward Island's because of I book I had never read: Anne of Green Gables. Even though I hadn't read the book I was probably exposed to enough information in pictures, movies, other books, other people that I wanted to visit the pastoral setting for the L.M. Montgomery novels. I was fortunate to visit the PEI in the summer of 2007. On our drive there my husband and I listened to Anne of Green Gables. Oh, my goodness! I fell in love with the book and was even more thrilled that I was going to PEI. The bottom picture is from the house where Montgomery grew up. It is absolutely picturesque - beautiful, peaceful. Well worth the trip.

I think I could write a post every month about places I've read about in books that I would love to visit. There are so many.

It was L.M. Montgomery that drew me to PEI as well and I loved it. I've been twice now and I'm hoping to go again!

I've always wanted to go to Ireland. Any book I've read about Ireland has intensified that desire.

But now I want to go to Italy too. I just finished reading VERY VALENTINE and the images presented of Italy make it seem like such a beautiful place. Also a book by Peter Pezzelli, HOME TO ITALY, paints a beautiful picture.

I love the idea behind this meme. I too could easily post monthly about somewhere I would love to visit because of a book!! B

beautiful pictures of Prince Edward. Did you eventually read Anne of Green Gables? You should, I think you would absolutely love it!!

I remember your trip (ah, the pleasures of the blogging world, where we can take virtual journeys). PEI is a place I, too, would like to visit. As a matter of fact, I've read several books lately with Canadian settings that I'd love to see in person.

Thank you so much for playing!! PEI looks absolutely gorgeous! You're right ... definitely peaceful looking.

I LOVED the Anne books when I was a (younger) girl!

I can't remember what came first: reading Montgomery or going to PEI. I know I had probably seen the movies beforehand, but I have seen them so many times now I have lost count! I live pretty close to PEI when I think about it, though, and I haven't been there in like 14 years. One of these days I am going to leave my province on a road trip...

I would love to visit PEI and lots of other places as well. I just finished a book that made me really want to visit Paris. That's never been a huge draw for me, but now . . .

Kate, We spent 2 days in Toronto on the same trip to PEI. We needed much more time!

Lynne, I would have guessed Ireland for you. I've added several books to my wish list that you have recommended.

Staci, isn't this a fun meme? We listened to Anne of Green Gables while driving towards PEI. I did love it.

Jenclair, virtual trips aren't as much fun as actual ones, but I do loving hearing about other's travels. Yay for books which allow us to travel to such great locations.

Strumpet, your welcome. It's such a fun meme.

Kailana, I read a book set in your province after returning from our trip - Barometer Rising. It makes me want to return, spend more time and look around Halifax a bit more. We loved our days in the 'blue nose' province. I fell in love with Baddeck and Lake Bras d'Or. Also, the music of Nova Scotia is so fun.

Framed, I would love to visit PEI with you. I've never had a big interest in visiting Paris. Should I or should't I read that book?!

Dang! This is the 2nd time posting this response. LOL! I hate when that happens.
I read "Anne of Green Gables" when I was 15 and then later watched the Disney Channel series as an adult and I love the characters of the book and would love to visit PEI.
Another book that makes me want to travel is "Five Quarters of the Orange" by Joanne Harris. I want to rent a house on the shore of the Loire in France and just soak up the food, wine and culture.

Great meme. I should peruse my reading journals and make this a monthly post. I know PEI is high on my list! I read the Anne series when I was a young girl and really should take the time to read them again.

Oh those are lovely pictures. I love traveling and just wish I could do it more often. I think lately after reading so many Scandinavian mysteries I feel like I must go to one of those countries!

Mame, Oh, renting a house of the shsore of the Loire in France sounds fabulous. Can you just imagine it?

Les, the PEI, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec are among my favorite places. I want to revisit very much. And the Northwest in another place I want to visit over and over again. I need more time, health and money!

Iliana, I have Swedish and Danish ancestry and have always wanted to visit that part of the world. I need to include those Scandinavian mysteries on my wish list.

Fantastic entry! I wish I could start a travel blog as well but then that would be too much to do! I love your perspective on various genres...I'm also going to add these locales to my list. I've been so many places, but am embarassed to say I haven't been to Canada. Going in July!
