The Alchemist

by Paulo Coelho
Rating 3.5/5
My nephew recommended this book. It's one that I would have enjoyed more when I was younger, but I'm still glad I read it. It's an inspirational tale of a young shepherd who is in search of his 'Personal Legend' embedded with lots of platitudes.

"Don't forget that everythin you deal with is only one thing and nothing else."

". . . he realized that he had to choose between thinking of himself as the poor victim of a thief and as an adventurer in quest of his treasure."

"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity."

"There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure."

This is book four for me in From the Stacks Winter Challenge. Yeehaw - four off my list. Okay, so I've added a million gazillions from everyone else's list, I'm at least having fun reading some good books.

Wow...you are doing really well!! I haven't read any books for the From the Stacks challenge yet! Actually, I haven't even read any of my November challenge books either!!

Four out of five? That's fantastic booklogged, way to go!!! :)

I read "The Alchemist" many years ago and I remember coming away from the book feeling highly inspired. I am told Paul Coelho's latest, "The Devil and Miss Prym" is also an excellent read.

I've only read one Paulo Coehlo book, Veronika Decides to Die, which I actually liked quite a bit. I may pick this one up one day. Anyway, way to go on your Stacks reading challenge!

Good for you! How long would it take to get through all of the books in your stack? That is if you quit adding to it... :0

Damn, you've almost finished the challenge - way to go! Yeah, reading everyone else's TBR books is wreaking havoc on my wishlist.

Wow! I'm actually finally reading my first one for this challenge. I had some library books I had to knock out first. I think I've added a ton of books to The List off of everyone else's too ;-)

Marg, What is your November Challenge? Are you doing something with a monthly challenge?

Lotus, The Devil and Miss Prym is an interesting title. It just begs to be read.

Angela, There are some good morsels to ponder in The Alchemist.

Iliana, I didn't realize Coelho had more than this book. Veronika Decides to Die is another very intriguing title.

Jenclair, I'm not really adding more books to my challenge list, I just substituted one book for another earlier. The Alchemist is actually on the original list. I'm hoping to finish the challenge by the end of Dec.

Lesley, Since I've been blogging my TBR list has grown by leaps and bounds, but I don't read as many duds as I used to. That's the plus side.

SuziQ, I'll be stopping over to read about those library books you've been reading.

Drat those confounded wavy verification words! I must be dyslexic - I'm having a harder and harder time getting them right! I added them back because I was getting spam. Darn spammers!

I think I might have to read that one, it keeps popping up. And for some reason, I enjoy platitudes a lot more in my old age than I did when I was younger.

Four down, one to go? Yay, you! I'm just happy on my 2nd in my list and haven't veered too far off it it other than library book holds coming in.

this is so depressing. am stuck with My name is Red, and almost every other book seems more tempting. i may have been a tad too ambitious with the Stacks books. :(

[not to mention the wedding in the family.]

Carrie, You will probably enjoy The Alchemist. It's a nice story and pretty quick to read.

Anocturne, are you not enjoying My Name is Red or is there too many other things going on. Obviously, the former is true because of the wedding.

I might try this one it sounds interesting. I have never heard of it before.

I never seem to get much accomplished on my to be read list, but at least I try. Pretty good, 4 books already. Of course I keep adding just like you.

I read Alchemist in English and in French and found the former to be much more eloquent. the language read like a song.

Its a beautiful read and makes a great present book - a kinda 'its for all ages, sexes and sizes' type book which always comes in handy for that emergency dinner your boyfriend decided to not tell you about until he shows up at your door. Ass. I hate it when they do that
