The Last Camel Died At Noon

by Elizabeth Peters
Rating 4/5
What can I say? I'm on a roll. I don't know that I've ever read 3 books in a series so close together before. This is book #6. I'm really enjoying the series at this point. Amelia and Emerson's son, Ramses, saved their lives and gained much deserved respect from his parents. It's about time! I guess I will substitute this for one of the books on my original From the Stacks list. I have all of this series on my TBR list so I'm still crossing off those books. Wow! It feels good to be making some headway.

I'm struggling through Baron in the Trees by Italo Calvino. The major problem is not sitting down and reading more than a few pages at a time. I'm going to force myself through it before I pick up Brother Odd by Dean Koontz, which I pre-ordered from Amazon and it arrived today right on schedule. Ohhhh, I can already feel my resolve melting. I think I have a workable idea - before I can read Brother Odd I must first read 15 pages in The Baron that day. Eureka!

You're amazing! I've only read 1 1/2 of my books (and one that's not on the list). I will have to try this series - it sounds intriguing!

I have never read Calvino, although I say I'm going to every time I read something about him. Maybe it's time to "move him to the top of my que." Eager to hear what you have to say when you finish.

I'm anxious, but a bit apprehensive about Brother Odd. I loved Odd Thomas, but the sequel fell flat, imho.

I started reading Calvino when I had him for a Italian take-home quiz and went out & bought his entire short story collection for that reason. But then I fell in love with it - his italian is so lyrical. I ended up reading half of his short stories and am told that its better to start that way with him then jumping into one of his longer pieces (most of his short stories are 4 pages long). Tryout a couple online.

I used to be a Dean Koontz/Sidney Sheldon fan when I was in High School but after a while I found that there was something lacking in his characters. I think the reason why I love 'classics' is because of the characters. Whereas I can remember the exact words exchanged between Darcy & Elizabeth + their family history the only thing I can about Koontz characters is the plot & only if I see the cover.

I'm glad you're still enjoying Amelia and Emerson. I get tired of them after three books or so and have to take a break. Then it's great to read them again. I've never read Koontz but a couple oare on my list because of your recommendations. BTW, are you sure you don't want to go to SL next week. There's a scrapbooking class on Sat. that Alyson and Cassie may attend.

I forgot to mention that your blog's margins are messed up on my computer. All your postings are clear down below everything on your sidebar. Is there something I can do to fix it?

Oh this is making me think that this should be my next audiobook series. I'm listening to the last Mrs. Pollifax right now and need another series to dive into for my commute and driving around town listening. I've been thinking of this one and your recent reviews have made it a front runner.

I finally finished my 1st book for From the Stacks - holiday and other stuff has really stalled my reading for the past week or so.

I like your idea of planning rewards for getting yourself through The Baron.

BTW - I have the same problem as Framed. It used to be only in Internet Explorer, but lately it's been that way in both IE and Firefox.

Pretty blog! I love that blue! I was having problems with your other blog, this one is fine. :)

I'm looking forward to reading BROTHER ODD, but agree with Les about the second one. I won't be able to read it for a while though.

Sorry that I've made no response to anyone's comment, I've been trying to get my blog to work. EGADS! (That's Emerson's favorite exclamation. From the Amelia Peabody series)

Thank-you to those who let me know that they couldn't see all three columns on their computer screen at once. As of this very moment this template is working, but I suspect it will blitz out at any moment.

hey, this new template is really soothing on the eyes. earlier, the center alignment of your text used to distract me from what was being said, but this is really cool. hang on to it.

you're almost done with your challenge! way t go!

I really like the new template you are using--and everything is lining up nicely! I really like the Amelia Peabody series, I need to read more of her!

I couldn't get the picture word verification to come up. Bah.

I really enjoyed the Amelia Peabody series, but my interest has waned in the last few books of the series. One of these days I'll gobble them up.

Oh, and you wondered what the acronym RL meant (in your History of Love Book Club post) and all it means is Real Life. You know, versus all you imaginary people typing online.

Wow, go you! You're really reading like crazy!

Love the new look. I have trouble with some blogs because of my lousy connection and this one seems to show up better than your last.

Can't wait to hear what you think of Calvino. I keep putting him off.
