Anne of Green Gables

By Lucy Maude Montgomery

What can I say? This book was totally delightful. I can hardly wait to reread it and to read more in the series. This is my first time reading Anne, though I’ve seen the movie. Loved them both. As in most cases, the book is even better than the movie. Isn’t that girl adorable? Oh, I love her and her positive attitude. Her outlook on life and her use of such delectable words brought many a smile and several good laughs. It was fun listening to it with Candleman on our trip to PEI, where we are looking forward to seeing the musical.

I feel kind of ridiculous for not having read any of L.M.Montgomery's books, yet. So glad you enjoyed the first one. I loved the movie series, many moons ago.

Oh, annotated. I never thought to look for an annotated version before! If you saw the new Anne movie, the one that came out a few years ago, the books are TOTALLY different.

The Anne books make great comfort reads, don't they? I started re-reading them last summer, but put them aside for other things. I may have to continue with them soon. So glad you enjoyed the book and look forward to hearing about the musical.

We went to PEI last year and really loved it. The home and museum were lovely, but the surrounding strip malls and amusement parks reminded me of Pigeon Forge, TN. Have fun and I hope the mussels are in season. :D

I'm glad you have discovered the joy of Anne! I re-read the series last winter. She is always such a delight!

I am reading this now for the TBR challenge. So far I am pretty Eh on the book. This is the first time I've read it.

I tried to read the book but I read like a movie and she talks so much that I imagined her talking very quickly and then I would forget what she said. :-}

I read this for the first time about 3 years ago and fell in love. And I weeped watching the movie. The rest of the series are good too but the first one is the best.

Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorites. It is definitely the best of the series, but I liked the others too. If I hadn't just acquired so many books recently, I might be tempted to read the whole thing again. Alas!

L.M. Montgomery is one of my all-time favourite authors. While the Anne series is definitely her most popular, some of her lesser-known books are so much better than some of the books in the Anne series. If you want to continue reading LMM after you're done the series, I totally recommend The Blue Castle. :)

I haven't read the Anne books since I was in my early teens! Have a wonderful time watching the musical and in PEI.

I had a very dear childhood love affair with this book and the Megan Follows movie of same (which was a bit different from the book but which is just as wonderful). I felt Anne and I were true kindred spirits and noone else would ever understand me!!!

I agree with those who love Anne and the magic continues through the series. However at our house "The Blue Castle" is the favorite of all. It doesn't matter if it be girl or boy all my children (of which there are 12) have really loved this book. The older children give the younger children the book for Christmas or a birthday. It is one of their favorite rereads. So if you haven't read the book it is a big recommendation for those who love Montgomery.

I tried to read the "Anne" books as a teenager and just couldn't do it, but I picked this one up at a garage sale last fall and have been reading them ever since. I am now reading "Anne of Ingleside" and can't wait to get the next one.
Really fun books!

This was one of my all time favorites to read when I was growing up. I keep meaning to re-read them but always get caught up in new releases and the what not. I am so glad that you read and enjoyed this!!!!

I never went to PEI, but Anne was one of my favorite book series when I was young (in fact I still have them), and the movies starring Megan Follows were delightful. Glad you enjoyed meeting Anne in print!

Being that I just read it, I agree! Now I need to watch the movie.
