My Grandfather's Blessings

by Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.

This is a reread for me.  I've left my bookmark in the book because I'm sure I'll be reading it again in a few years.  Dr. James Allen, our family doctor, recommended this book years ago and both my husband and myself have read it twice.  It's that good!  Fist time through we marked passages we especially liked with book darts.  This time through I used a yellow marker.  I didn't mark passages we'd already book darted and I was surprised at the new items that stood out to me.  This is one from the last few pages: "Only the people who become free can serve God's holy purposes and restore the world.  Only those who are not enslaved by something else can follow the good in them."  Dr. Remen was loved and taught by her Jewish grandfather, raised by socialist parents, suffered since a youth with chrones disease, and still became a doctor.  She is amazing!  And her writing is thoughtful, inspiring, and empowering.

Cheya! It is so good to see you! Glad you are still reading and blogging when the mood strikes, even if it is a year between posts. I have you in a folder on my blog reader called 'Rare but hopeful', lol.
Hope things are well with you and your family.

Hi, Elizabeth. I'm really taking off. Only months, not years, in between posts! I just now saw your comment. Love the name of your file and I'm glad I fit somewhere. We are well. I met a woman in my small town who had been to PEI and we had so much fun discussing its charms. I think about our time there, our visit with you, the bagpipers marching down the street, seeing Anne of Green Gables, and enjoying Cow ice cream often and always with fondness.

I need to get back to recording my books. I do keep track on Goodreads but I don't always write something about the books. I look at the covers and have no idea what the book was about. There are some that stand out but most are quickly forgot.
