Austenland

by Shannon Hale

"Jane Hayes is a seemingly normal young New Yorker, but she has a secret. Her obsession with Mr. Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, is ruining her love life: no real man can compare. But when a wealthy relative bequeaths her a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become realer than she ever could have imagined." -from the Publisher

I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this romantic escapade, but I did. In fact, I enjoyed it a lot. Hale has added some fun twists to this modern retelling of Austen's masterpiece.

I read this before I saw Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy. Somehow he made the whole book make more sense. It was a very fun book to read.

Have you read Goose Girl by Shannon Hale? It is a YA, but I really enjoyed it. It was a nice read. I remember thinking I should look up some of Hale's other books, so I'm glad I stumbled onto your page and read this review!

I am so happy that you enjoyed this book. It was very enjoyable to me. It is so clever and had such funny lines. A perfect book for anyone who loved A&E's Pride and Prejudice.

"Years later, she considered seeing a therapist about this one until she realized that Dave "Fancy Hands" Atters wasn't the guy holding her back -- the blame really lay with Fitzwilliam "I love you against my better judgement" Darcy."

I love that line! Such a great book!

I have this book sitting on my desk right now waiting for me to write up a review for it. I enjoyed it the more it went on and thought the end was hilarious. It kept playing as a romantic comedy movie in my head. Wouldn't this make a funny film?
