The Snake, the Crocodile and the Dog

by Elizabeth Peters

I read this for the Series Challenge and for the What's in a Name Challenge (animal) . This is book #7 in the Amelia Peabody series that I've dipped into here and there over the years. There are 12 more to get me caught up. I'm sure Ms Peters will have written more before that happens, though.

I really enjoy the story of Amelia and Emerson and their archaeological discoveries. In this installment Emerson looses his memory which adds undue complications in catching the "Master Criminal." There's plenty of adventure, intrigue and a bit of marital romance combined with a good mystery. It was fun to pick up a book and read about likable, crotchety characters you are familiar with. This series is comfortable and totally enjoyable.

Great review! You know what - I chose this one for one of my categories in the "What's in a Name" challenge also. HOWEVER - I had no idea it wasn't the first in a series. For some odd reason, I thought it was. Will I be able to figure out the characters and what is going on, if I have not read any of the 6 that preceded this one?

Happy Reading!!!

Stacy, I think it will be okay to read it without reading the others. Actually, I think it's kind of fun sometimes to read a book further along in a series and then go back and read the first ones. I did that with Anne Perry's William Monk series.

Look forward to your thoughts. Be prepared to Amelia and Emerson rather eccentric relationship. It's fun.

I love this series and book #1, CROCODILE ON A SANDBANK is one of my favorite books ever. I have read it over and over. Amelia and Emerson have a great relationship and I love to read about married couples who are mad about each other many, many years into the marriage.

Kay, I think the thing I love the most about this series is Amelia and Emerson's relationship. It's not lovey-dovey, but they are definitely in love.

I wish I had been blogging when I first started to read this series so I would remember if I had read this or not. Doesn't sound familiar though. Is Ramses still young. I loved him when he was young and talkative.
